With the Dolphins seeking a 7-game winning streak for the first time since 1985 and the first win in Baltimore since 1997, this loss snapped the Dolphins' 6-game winning streak and they fell to 7–5. It was also Miami’s seventh loss to the Ravens in the last nine meetings. On August 16, 2016, the Dolphins announced the naming rights to their home stadium had been sold to Hard Rock International. The stadium, which was known as Sun Life Stadium in 2015 and was being called "New Miami Stadium" during the $500 million renovations completed during the summer of 2016, will be known as "Hard Rock Stadium." Goff went 17 of 31 for 134 yards after finally getting his chance in the 10th game of the season. But the Rams did little between Miami's two touchdowns, and when Los Angeles got the ball back at its 41 with 29 seconds left, Goff moved the team only 12 yards before throwing an incompletion in the end zone as time expired. The Cleveland Browns come into the 2016 season with a familiar situation; an inexperienced coach in Hue Jackson, a less-than-ideal quarterback situation, and a roster that looks to have little hope of exceeding four wins in the campaign. While the Browns received good on-field news in the conditional reinstatement of Josh Gordon, the Dolphins won’t have to worry, as Gordon will be suspended for the first four games of the season.

The innovative and enigmatic Chip Kelly has been brought in to revolutionize the 49ers offense. He will look to capitalize on the Dolphins defensive aggressiveness in this cross-conference matchup. On a wet day in Miami, Andrew Franks kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Dolphins a 26–23 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The Dolphins also snapped their three-game losing streak against the Cardinals, beating them for the first time since 1999. Ryan Tannehill suffered a season-ending knee injury when he was hit low by Calais Campbell although the injury was diagnosed as a sprain and not a torn ACL as was originally feared.

These issues became even more pronounced over the years, as, by 2004, a wave of baseball-only parks left what had by then been renamed Pro Player Stadium as the only National League park that played host to both an MLB and an NFL team. The lights were not located in optimal positions for baseball visibility. During August and September, when the Dolphins shared the stadium, the field conditions were among the worst in the majors, according to both Marlins players and visiting players.
